Controlling playback speedv2.2

Use playbackRate to control the speed of both <Video> and <Audio>.

  • 1 is the default speed.
  • 0.5 plays at half speed and takes twice as long.
  • 2 plays at double speed and takes half as long.
MyComposition.tsx
import {Video} from '@remotion/media'; import {staticFile} from 'remotion'; export const MyComposition = () => { return <Video src={staticFile('video.mp4')} playbackRate={2} />; };

Keep playbackRate constant for each clip. To use a different speed for each section, see Different segments at different speeds. The Changing speed over time recipe uses <OffthreadVideo> and has separate compatibility requirements.

Preserving pitchv4.0.538

With <Video> and <Audio> from @remotion/media, changing playback speed also changes audio pitch by default. Pass preservePitch to keep the original pitch while changing speed:

MyComposition.tsx
import {Video} from '@remotion/media'; import {staticFile} from 'remotion'; export const MyComposition = () => { return <Video src={staticFile('video.mp4')} playbackRate={2} preservePitch />; };

This works during preview, server-side rendering and client-side rendering. Keep preservePitch constant for each asset during rendering. For native media components and fallback behavior, see Choosing a media component.

To adjust pitch independently, see Controlling pitch.
